San Diego
I go to San Diego quite often. My mom and brother live there and I have other family there as well. I have been a frequent visitor of the city pretty much my whole life, even when I was living in the Philippines. In some ways, it's my 'home base' in States.
I love the landscape back there. Also, that California light is great. It's sunny and sunsets look amazing almost every time. The enviornment is vast and open and it feels like everything is new. It's almost the complete opposite from New York city. It's also a very dry landscape, it's hilly and also very desert like. But then you also have the coast, which I often shoot at when I kind of just want to shoot a roll of film before I had back east.
These photos were taken with my Mamiya 7II. I shot these with my 80mm lens. I also have a 65mm and the 50mm lens. They are great lenses but at the time being, I trying to shoot as much as possible with my 80mm. I am aiming to keep my work more consistent as far as look and perspective.
This location is not to far from where I stay when I am in San Diego. It's a road under a major freeway. What got me interested in this place is not only the size of the structure but how the light coming through the open areas gave the scene more straight lines. It already has very straight lines but the light gave it another dimension...if that makes any sense. Also, throughout the day, this place changes because of how the light goes through in different angles at different times of the day.
So here are the photos, the film I used was Kodak Portra 160. In the next week or so, I will be having prints up for sale. Check back then to see them.
