The city I live in but hardly shoot in. I have been living in New York for almost 6 years now and I don’t shoot too often here. While it might be the most iconic city to photograph, I usually tend not to have the patience for street photography. Also, I gravitate towards more open scenery where I have more obvious negative spaces. But I do plan on shooting an on-going project/series of New York and I pan to share more photos of it this year.
Although these photographs were taken during the day, I want to shoot a series of night photos in the city. I recently ordered some CineStill 800 which is a tungsten film and from what I have seen, gives really nice results while shooting at night. More on that when I test it out in the near future.
As I said, I gravitate towards open spaces. I shot these photos on the west side highway, not too far from where I live. It’s probably the most open area in Manhattan. I shot this on my Mamiya 7II and mostly shot it on my 65mm lens. I used Kodak Portra 400 and Portra 800. These photos came out okay, I think. I haven’t taken out this camera in a while so I just felt the need to go out and shoot. When the temperature gets a little warmer I plan on shooting some night photos in the city. I do have in mind a series for night photos, not sure though if these night city photos will be a part of it.
